Phrasal Verb: drop out

If you drop out of school or college you stop going to your classes before your course has finished.

Examples of use:
1. This course isn’t right for me. I think I’ll drop out.

2. Kate has dropped out of her biology course and she’s studying psychology instead.

To drop out also means to live an alternative lifestyle; one that is different to the norm.

Example of use:
Simone has dropped out and gone to live in a commune.

dropout (noun) – someone who has left school or college before their course has finished, or someone who has withdrawn from conventional society.

-ing form – dropping out

past simple – dropped out

past participle – dropped out
