To drift off is to gradually start to sleep.
Examples of use:
1. We closed our eyes and drifted off to sleep in the sun.
2. The meeting was so boring she started drifting off.
3. I was just drifting off when my neighbour’s dog started barking.
4. I was so tired I drifted off during my English lesson.
5. My grandmother always drifts off when we watch a film together.
