What will I find on this blog?
I write this blog as a space to provide useful and free resources and information for learners of English.
Many English language learners find English phrasal verbs difficult to learn and use: I love them, and you’ll find lots of definitions and examples on this blog 🙂
Where I can, I try to find interesting and relevant photos for my definitions because images can be very useful for learning and memorizing language.
The English language is rich in idioms and idiomatic expressions and I think they’re a fascinating area of language, so you can expect to see new examples of these added regularly too.
Life in the United Kingdom
I live in the UK and I write about some of the many interesting aspects of UK culture, customs and traditions for readers planning to move to the UK, or just wanting to know more about life here.
Who is this blog suitable for?
I do my best to make sure the content on this blog is suitable for students of all ages and from different cultural backgrounds, and that it’s suitable for accessing from all institutions and organisations, including educational establishments.
I hope you find the information here useful. If there’s anything in particular you would like me to write about, please let me know. And if you have anything to say about any of the posts or any questions, please add a comment because I would love to hear from you 🙂

Who writes this blog?
I’m Angela Boothroyd. I’m a qualified teacher, with an ESOL subject specialism, and I have an MA in Online and Distance Education, and an MEd in Applied Linguistics.
You’ll also find me on my Botanical Linguist website where, amongst other things, I help learners of English become self-directed or independent learners.
I live in Cornwall in the UK, in a cottage by the sea. I’m mum to three – two daughters and a son. I love books, reading, photography, music and gardening; and I’m very interested in Russian literature and history.
I’m also proud to be a ‘Bird’ – one of the resident bloggers on the Birds on the Blog site which helps to fund the education of twin girls in Uganda.
